Davis Hodge MSW, LCSWA

About Me

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (P019493) practicing in North Carolina. I received my MSW from UNC Chapel Hill and have been working directly with clients since 2021. Prior to earning my MSW, I spent 10 years managing cooperatively owned grocery stores. During this time I helped co-found a summer camp program for queer and trans youth from the South, served on the board of directors for the LGBTQ Center of Durham, and facilitated a support group for trans and gender expansive people of all ages. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from UNC Greensboro which I received in 2012. I’ve lived in North Carolina my entire life and identify deeply as a Southerner.

I started my therapy career as a student intern at an agency providing mental health support services to individuals with federal Refugee status in the United States. After this, I worked as an intern at a sex therapy practice where I later became a full time clinician.

My Approach to Therapy

My training as a clinical social worker guides me to take a relational, person-in-environment approach to working with clients. This means I consider your experiences and identities not only as they exist within you, but also within the larger social, cultural, and systemic contexts in which we live. I know that you are the expert on your own experience, and I believe my role is to develop a trusting and supportive working relationship with you so we can explore and untangle the things that feel overwhelming, stuck, confusing, or painful in your life. I also really believe we can find joy and levity in this process, and I view laughter as a tool of healing and connection in therapy.

My Therapy Orientation: Relational/Psychodynamic, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Harm Reduction, Trauma informed, Culturally affirming, Compassion & Liberation based practices, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Areas of Expertise: I have experience working with clients of many varied identities and orientations and I am knowledgeable about topics such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, sexual/other trauma, and communication or conflict resolution issues. I have expertise on topics of sexual orientation, sex and sexual functioning, gender identity, masculinities, kink, and polyamory/non-monogamy.

Ideal Clients: Adults of all ages, individuals, couples, relationships.
